Seminar Abstract The increased development of renewable energy, which results in a decrease in the production and use of coal and oil, will have a significant impact on coal-based industries and communities located nearby. Therefore, it is essential to have a suitable plan of energy transition that can minimize the impacts and provide financing investment to improve local economies and industries, making them more resilient. This can be achieved by reusing land and infrastructure, fostering the existing and future workforce, replacing tax sources, and promoting the accountability of social and environmental behaviors and policies.

Seminar Abstract Today 55% of the world’s population lives in urban areas, with this share expected to grow to 68% by 2050. Cities are responsible for the majority of the world’s economic activity, energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, to significantly cut emissions, urban centres will need to both use less energy and take greater advantage of periods when intermittent renewable energy is available. “Smart cities” are expected to play a pivotal role in achieving these objectives. The term smart city can encompass a broad range of initiatives, but in this event we focus on those closely linked to the Internet of Things (IoT).

Seminar Abstract The implementation of CBAM will bring an overall effect to the business value chain that covers the cost of raw materials, the efficiency of production, and the control of low-carbon footprints for producing products. For global supply chains, the enterprises may be forced to find substitutions to replace the current value chain by choosing the suppliers in the EU or other low-carbon suppliers. How can companies respond to this challenge?

Seminar Abstract The healthcare sector plays a pivotal role in the overall welfare and development of societies, but it also contributes significantly to global warming. The key aspects of concern include energy-intensive buildings and services, the generation of toxic medical waste, and the extensive use of disposable equipment. These aspects present both challenges and opportunities for the sector to align with climate objectives. The session we are planning aims to explore the multifaceted impacts of climate change on health through the lens of different stakeholders in the health sector.

Seminar Abstract Much of the conversation about climate mitigation and adaptation revolves around technological solutions such as low-carbon electricity generation, carbon capture, gene editing of food crops, etc. However, no less important are solutions based on indigenous and ancient religious knowledge, what we can call nature-based and spiritual technologies. In this seminar, panelists discuss nature-based and nature-inspired solutions for climate resilience in food systems, as well as community empowerment through the promotion of a volunteering spirit, with examples including community gardens and farms that not only provide sustenance for volunteers but also for orphans and the elderly. A crucial aspect of these technologies is their inter-generational nature, where elders with passed-down knowledge work together with young volunteers, entrepreneurs, and activists to implement solutions on a community basis. Finally, the impact and applicability of nature-based and spiritual technologies on global sustainability efforts will be discussed.

Seminar Abstract

In the midst of the global shift toward net-zero, the escalating risks of climate change have elevated businesses to pivotal roles. However, it is the youth who stand at the forefront, bearing the brunt of an uncertain climate future.

This event focuses on generational equity. The speakers will first share the impact and collective anxiety experienced by the youth, and the statement for climate emergency voiced by the youth, then explore how businesses can actively respond to their concerns. Recognizing the urgency of youth demands, businesses are not only expected to address the immediate climate challenges but also to invest in initiatives that empower the youth to voice their concerns and articulate concrete climate policy demands.

This forum provides a platform for businesses to deepen their understanding of the young generation’s climate policy demands. By fostering dialogue and collaboration, we aim to empower businesses to provide the necessary resources for voicing climate issues from a youth perspective, and empower more young leaders to become practitioners in solving climate problems.

Seminar Abstract The EU Taxonomy is a system created by the European Union to classify economic activities that are aligned with environmental sustainability. It clearly defines 7 main industries, more than 10 economic activities' assessment criteria (both quantitative and qualitative), and 6 environmental objectives. The system regulates business activities to ensure that they contribute significantly to at least one of the six environmental objectives, without causing harm to any of the other objectives. These sustainable activities are aimed at promoting environmental sustainability.
